How do you keep employees motivated in the face of significant change? It's a question I've been asked quite a bit lately. And while there's no one-size-fits-all answer, I've found a simple approach that's proven effective: listen, understand, and execute.
I learned this strategy from Larry Wilson, co-author of The One Minute Salesperson. He shared a "ditty" that I've found invaluable:
Seek first to understand. Before implementing any changes, take the time to truly listen to your employees. Understand their concerns, fears, and hopes.
Be responsive. Show your employees that you've heard them. Acknowledge their feelings and address their concerns directly.
Then execute. Once you have a clear understanding of the situation, execute your plan with confidence and conviction.
By following this simple approach, you can create a more supportive and motivating environment for your employees during times of change.
